A Normalized Approach for Designing Cylindrical Microresonators
نویسنده
چکیده
A normalized design approach has been developed that allows rapid estimates of parameters like the bend loss, finesse, and free spectral range of the fundamental microresonator modes of twoand three-dimensional microresonators. Based on this approach, the minimum size for a given finesse and the free spectral range for microresonators in silicon oxynitride technology are investigated.

Coupled Mode Theory and FDTD Simulations of the Coupling Between Bent and Straight Optical Waveguides
Analysis of integrated optical cylindrical microresonators involves the coupling between a straight waveguide and a bent waveguide. Our (2D) variant of coupled mode theory is based on analytically represented mode profiles. With the bend modes expressed in Cartesian coordinates, coupled mode equations can be derived in a classical way and solved by numerical integration. Proper manipulation of ...

متن کاملWave Propagation Approach to Fluid Filled Submerged Visco-Elastic Finite Cylindrical Shells
Multi-layer orthotropic finite cylindrical shells with a viscoelastic core in contact with fluids are gaining increasing importance in engineering. Vibrational control of these structures is essential at higher modes. In this study, an extended version of the wave propagation approach using first-order shear deformation theory of shell motion is employed to examine the free vibration of damped ...
متن کاملFree ultra-high-Q microtoroid: a tool for designing photonic devices.
We describe techniques that enable fabrication of a new class of photonic devices based on free UH-Q microresonators. Preliminary results show that free silica microtoroids with Qs above 30 million can be fabricated and transferred to different platforms for integration with a variety of photonic devices.
متن کاملSingle Mode Lasing from Hybrid Hemispherical Microresonators
Enormous attention has been paid to optical microresonators which hold a great promise for microlasers as well as fundamental studies in cavity quantum electrodynamics. Here we demonstrate a three-dimensional (3D) hybrid microresonator combining self-assembled hemispherical structure with a planar reflector. By incorporating dye molecules into the hemisphere, optically pumped lasing phenomenon ...
